Pop A Manu

Although the maori word manu is translated as bird the term to ‘pop a manu’ means to stand on a platform of any description and launch into a deep body of water with the aim of causing the biggest possible splash.

The Ohope wharf was abuzz with activity and clearly the venue for the unofficial manu comp of the day. In 28 degree C temps ages young and old, locals and tourists mixed it up to leap from varying heights - with varying results. The crowd-awarded title of manu master went to one of the ‘larger’ locals but the people’s favourite was definitely a tiny 3 or 4 year old in a life jacket - legend!

We spent the better part of a few hours with fresh fruit ice creams and cheezie weezies (just dont ask - def not health food - I bought them because I liked the name) and watched the unsolicited entertainment followed by swims and surfing. A very fun family afternoon.
