Goldeneye displaying

Today has been a beautiful sunny day and feeling much warmer so I decided to go for a walk around Colemere.

The warmer weather must have made the birds feel springlike as there was a lot of birdsong and I heard a woodpecker drumming to announce his territory to a potential mate.

I saw some goosander on the water and this pair of goldeneye. The male was displaying to the female by throwing his head up and back while his mate was lying low in the water next to him. Most breed in Russia and Scandinavia although some stay in the UK but by the behaviour of this pair I don't think that they'll be hanging around here for long.
