taking the rough with the smooth

...after a bright start, the wind and the heavy showers were back!

Soon after we set off on a bug search in Arne, the rain started falling heavily, so we upped sticks and headed back to Wareham Forest where we could see the weather was looking better. It was still showery but at least there were good periods of sunshine between the downpours.

Our target was an area of rotting logs that had revealed several interesting specimens yesterday and we were no less delighted today.

This common woodlouse, Oniscus asellus was sharing a dormitory with this gorgeous juvenile Smooth Newt, Lissotriton vulgaris.

Depending on the weather, we will almost certainly be back tomorrow as we have to go to Wimborne Minster in the afternoon...
