So I work in a pub called the Amethyst which is named after a war ship that was built on the Clyde
The HMS amethyst was trapped on the Yangtze River for three months during the Chinese Civil War in the summer of 1949, during that simon the cat kept the rats away from the food keeping the sailors alive
He was even awarded the Dickin Medal for gallantry under enemy fire, unfortunately poor wee simon died in quarantine but nice wee bit of history for you
