Cloch Beannachadh

Refreshed after our somewhat adventurous day yesterday -  see here  - a hearty breakfast was taken, and yes, two more wells on the agenda. Himself was a most patient and noble driver as we wend our up incredibly tiny, potholed roads towards Oughtihery! And the fog was down again. This was the object of my devotions.  Look carefully for it really is very exciting - can you see four hollows, two on the left and two on the right? You placed your knees in the two small hollows to the left and dropped an offering into the large hollow top right which now has a stone in it. The stone itself is interesting for it could be a blessing or a cursing stone, rotated in the hollow, clockwise for nice wishes, anticlockwise for not so kind. The entire stone was once near a well, which seems to have disappeared, and was later moved to the roadside. These devotions complete with taking water from the well was meant to have cured rheumatism.
There was a rather sweet little 5 stone circle nearby and a little further on we stopped at St Olán's Well, complete with impressive standing stone, tree growing out of the well, Stations of the Cross and a statue of the Sacred Heart of Mary.

Enough for one day! And more floods on the way home.
