New Fire Station

Two days ago, I shared a photo of our old Seattle Fire Station 37. The new Fire Station 37 is located on the same side of the street, about three blocks south of the old station.

Tough to get the whole building in the picture, so blame the slightly curved flag pole on the left to the inexpensive ultra wide angle lens that was used. Not the sharpest lens I own by any means, but gets the job done where others can't :)

The pole on the far right that might resemble some sort of antenna or signal is actually an interactive sculpture that was installed when the building was dedicated. Our laws require that any new public building constructed MUST direct a small percentage of the total cost towards public art.

The name of this piece is "Lifter." You turn a crank at the base of the sculpture and the metal arms move slowly up and down as you turn the crank.

Perhaps I will return at a later date and blip "Lifter."
