Pirunkuru - Devil's gorge

Today we found the steepest gully, aptly named Pirunkuru (or Devil's gorge)  climbed it to the top and over to the higher top of Kesanki tunturi. The wind added a sharp bite to the -16C temperatures so we continued smartly down to Tahkokuru hut (see extra), nestling in the lee of the hill and then back down through the woods to our starting place at Kesänki Järvi (lake).

These dramatic gully features were purportedly carved by the meltwaters from the retreating glaciers that covered the land at the end of the last ice age.
