Sorbus stars

I bought some bare root trees in Feb and that is exactly what they were. They looked dead rather than dormant. So I planted unpromising specimens into the unpromising ground left by the builders. I did not expect much.

Contrary to my uneducated expectations, they have come through. I bought one sorbus because of the autumn promise of yellow berries and vivid red leaves. Each tiny berry has a star at its base which I hadn't noticed until taking the photograph.
