Selfies from the Brink

Minimalism / Civilization (EP11)

Skeena suggested minimalism or high-key photography for this week’s Experimental Photography Challenge. A quick search on Google aroused my interest for minimalist photography. Minimalism is a very open concept and there is a wide variety of definitions out there. However, most of them agree on the principle “Keep it simple”. Use only a few elements (lines, textures, objects) to compose your image. You can find simple introductions and tips on minimalist photography here or here.
This week’s theme is “civilization”: architecture, pavements, streets, objects, people, or even shadows of all these things – any traces or impressions by which humans make their presence known in this world.
This challenge is wide open to your own interpretation. We will do a specific challenge on low and high key later on, but if you want to you can use both techniques in this challenge. It’s up to you.
For today’s blip I chose a pattern of lines formed by poles. The stripe of red plastic at the top adds tension to the image. The shadow of my actual Self disrupts the evenness of these elements and offers an additional focus.
See the extra for another take on minimalism.
