Small magpie

This was quite a surprise this evening as we stumbled into our kitchen after a long day battling with London traffic and parking regulations. Facing us, on the inside of a glass door to a cupboard housing crockery and tea and coffee stores, was this lovely micro-moth. It is Anania hortulata or Small magpie, commonly found breeding on nettles, mints and woundwort. However, this adult  must have hatched inside the cupboard as it is never left open. Could it be that a pupa was attached to the box of mint tea in the cupboard? A rather nice mystery.
