Hawksworth ridge and furrow

I've been waiting for a good opportunity to photograph the ancient field systems on the north side of the valley.  The whole south-facing slope was evidently covered with fields.  T'internet says that ridge and furrow was a feature of agricultural workings from post-Roman times to the 17th century or so.  The two golf courses have largely been cleared of their original stone walls and associated trees but when the light is very oblique or, even better, when there's wind-blown or partially-melted snow then a network of fields, lanes and livestock pens are discernible.

It's slightly spooky to see 'ghost lanes' appear which must have been in daily use centuries ago.
