Espanta Pastores

Crocus serotinus ssp salzmannii, from Spain, Portugal and North Africa is sometimes referred to as The Terror of the Shepherds, Espanta Pastores. It's flowers appear after the first Autumn storms sweep in off the Atlantic, not great weather if you are a shepherd, I guess! It grows well in the maritime UK, some of the Atlantic coast forms making good garden plants.

I attended a meeting in Stowmarket today. I was posted there for six months soon after I started work, thirty years a fair while ago. Good memories of those times although I had not been back for a very long time until today.
