Floating by...

...as I had my swim at 9 this morning.
The water like a mirror and such a refreshing way to start the day. We've been watching for dabchicks after seeing a hawk trying to raid nests last week. They are rare and our bay at Lake Tarawera i one of the few places they are found. There are  2 pairs out there just now. One by the island, nesting amongst the Australian coots, scaups and black swans and another pair cruising nearer the reeds near the shore.
Tiny and elegant, they dive under with a wee plop and reappear after an extaordinary length of time considering how tiny their lungs must be.
