Clearing the heathland

An "after " photo of my work today - clearing of small trees.  Well not just me, 3 of us attacked a clump of trees. (see extra for an idea of how many small trees we cut down). The aim is to extend some rare (for Kent) heathland. to the new fence you can see in the blip.   See extra for another view across the heathland; I was working in the far right, you can just see the oak tree.   Hopefully the heather will gradually encroach to the new fence.  Someone with a chainsaw comes round and tidies up the stumps. We don't leave "widows" stumps as they call them.  And we had to drag all the trees down to the bonfire in the distance to be burned. I've done my exercise for today and I smell rather smoky.
