In memory of Percy

After going to art this morning I accompanied F to a hospital appointment at the world famous Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital at Gobowen on the outskirts of Oswestry.

For over twenty years Percy the Peacock had lived at the hospital and could always be seen mooching around the building. Sadly he died last year and everyone was very sad as he was such a familiar character at the hospital.

This beautiful sculpture in memory of him was made by an artist at The British Ironworks Centre and is made from over 1000 obsolete surgical instruments. It was unveiled by Princess Alexandra last summer so Percy still greets visitors to the hospital. Another of their sculptures I blipped here.

My blip is a close up of the central part of the sculpture but the whole of it together with an article about it can be seen here if anyone is interested.
