Celebration......

.....a night to venture out in the rain and cold to dine on Asian cuisine at the local Nom Nom Kitchen. The food was divine and service excellent as we celebrated two birthday's, mum's and hubby's.

Since the earthquakes our main shopping street has changed, buildings have been demolished and new ones have risen from the rubble bringing with them some wonderful eating places. There's now plenty of choice from all nationalities.

Tonights dinner was had in one of the older buildings, a bootmakers building dated 1870. The business was downstairs while the family lived upstairs along with apprentice bootmakers who came out from England. Behind the building was an orchard and vegetable garden, with a much admired garden with summer house on the west side of the house. The underground cellar was used to store home-made wine, jam, beer and vegetables, as well as coal.

The business may've changed but the building survived the earthquakes, I'm glad it's still in use.

A great night was had, Happy Birthday to you both! :)
