Day 028/18. Is this just a British thing?

A walk around our local small lake with our grandsons today.
Around the lake there is a miniature railway offering rides for a few pounds. As we were watching them shunting and moving stuff around a thought struck me. I have seen steam railways in other countries but all have been full size and part of a heritage thing.
Are miniature steam railways a particularly British thing, a hangover from the industrial (steam) revolution? Or is the love of steam trains of any size worldwide?
