Sepperl

Not sure how many dachshunds my Grandmother had but I always seem to remember there being one. Later when she was a little frail, she got a boxer who she loved but was totally unsuitable.

Also sure the Dackels, as the breed is commonly called in Germany (not Wiener which is the German word for a Frankfurter hot dog like sausage), were always called Sepperl.

Sepp is the Bavarian name for Joseph, the ending being the familiar form. My grandmother was a very proud "Westphalian" from the Dortmund area but she had been married to a Bavarian. In modern times, Dortmund and Munich are arch-rivals in the football world.

Her in Bavaria "Waldi" is a popular name for dackels. Possibly because lots of foresters have them "Wald" is one of the German words for forest.
