Sex in the City 2

Abu Dhabi was chosen as the location for Sex in the City 2, because of its high fashion culture and also that it was a location free from the recession. Emirati authorities refused clearance for filming in the emirate. As a result, the Abu Dhabi segment of the film were filmed in Morocco. Abu Dhabi looks nothing like the film.

What has this got to do with an old Abu Dhabi taxi? If you have seen the film you will know...

In these old taxis, the drivers sleep in the cars, giving each it's own particular aroma. They also cut out the safety belts (Allah will keep you safe), and cover the seats in hard plastic (which you can see in the shot). Before getting in you have to negotiate the fare. Never be surprised that other people are also in the cab, who will happily share your ride.

These old white and gold taxis have almost all been replaced by the newer silver taxi, which have meters, safety belts, and speed restricters.

The title is all the more apt after the recent Dubai headline:
