Hire Car

My parents were back in Europe for the Easter holidays.

They picked me up from school in Somerset and off we set off in a rented car to Weinheim, near Heidelberg, Germany for the festivities.

Judging by the registration number, they had picked it up at Heathrow when they arrived. It must have been as good as brand new as "D" numbers back then were registered from 1st Jan to 31st December 1966. It changed the following year to the August-July year system that still baffles me. Price of snobbery I guess.

Commonly called an Austin or Morris 1100 made by BMC British Motor Company, it was the most popular British car during much of its lifetime (63-71). And then came the EU and killed British Car manufacturing! It came in all sizes and shapes and officially titled BMC AD016

Here, parked outside Grandmother's house

It got us from Somerset to Germany and back. What more do you want?
