Man Vs Nature

Our yard is bordered by 140 acres of conservation land.  It's a real benefit in our eyes as it means there are no neighbors behind or on the side of us.  Well, for the past 2 weeks, there has been a steady hum coming from the woods surrounding us.  One day, I looked up to see trees being felled at a rate of about 1 every 2 minutes just beyond the border of our stone wall.  It was quite disconcerting to say the least but upon further inspection and discussion with one of my neighbors when we woke at 6 a.m. to find the "Beast" of a tractor/chopper busy at work, we learned that it was part of the management of the land.  It is being done in conjunction with a professional forester and a land clearing company.  I took a walk to see just what was going on this unusually quiet day and Wow! was I surprised to see paths and cleared trees over quite a large area.  The machinery is massive and impressively destructive.  I'm hoping that they know what they are doing - they are certainly opening things up for better walking trails, cross country skiing etc.  It looks as though they have a lot more work to do so I'm sure they'll be back.

Decided to do another collage for the Experimental Photography 13 week.
