Grey Wagtail

Every winter one or more grey wagtails turn up at the Rowing Lake. Sometimes they stay for a few weeks, other years it's just a few days. Now that I have no dogs to walk I don't tend to visit very regularly, but I was pleased to spot this one today, all fluffed up against the cold.

It was good to be out in the fresh air after a morning of data wrangling and writing. Despite the low temperature, there were still signs of spring about. I spent some time watching a pair of great crested grebes making their first tentative overtures to each other. It won't be long before these develop into a full-blown dance of love.
