Witch Hazel

This witch hazel is flowering in my garden.  I wondered how a shrub that flowers in January/February manages to transfer its pollen, when there don't appear to be any flying insects about (apart from AH14's 29th January bumblebee).  It turns out that it is pollinated by the 'winter moth', a night-flying moth that flies in cold weather and finds the flowers by smell.  I rather like that.
