Ingenuity

Somebody spent a long time building a very efficient dam across the river at the Kaitoki reserve (where the Rivendell scenes from the first LOTR film were shot). It will probably get swept away when the river gets a storm surge on it, but at the moment it has helped to slow the river down at one of the swimming areas.
