Oversight

Another of those busy days where every time one lifted one’s head there was someone wanting a decision/ discussion.

Got through the morning with less done than I’d hoped then a colleague kindly got me a sandwich to have at the desk while I worked on.

Then straight into the first formal meeting of the Joint Digital Oversight Committee.  It has been a bit of a journey to get to this point as we have sought to work through the appropriate governance arrangements for the joint digital programme we and our sister organisation – SCRA – are implementing. The programme is now well under way and we need the appropriate governance in place.

The new committee consists of the two chairs of the respective audit Committees – supported by independent advice.  Here we see - on the left Jim from SCRA and on the right Henry from CHS.    My counterpart in SCRA – Neil – and I will jointly report to this Committee.

Some lengthy detailed presentations and some constructive challenging discussions.  Then the new arrangements were signed off.  Each chair will report through each Board’s audit committee to the respective Boards.

Getting the balance right between 2 different sized organisations who share a joint aim but have separate functions has required some close partnership working but we look to have achieved progress so far.

After we came out of the meeting there were lots more issues to address so I ended up being too late to visit my aunt – now past the 3-month period during which she had been declared fit to go home but can’t get care organised.  Hopefully there will be a window tomorrow to chase up progress.  Fortunately, our son was able to undertake the visit at short notice and had a good chat.

The scale of tidying up at home is decreasing as there are fewer things to move.  The hall now includes a tall freezer and a fridge freezer - not a picture for the house-design magazines but a potential blip?.
