Sgwarnog: In the Field

Trio

The weather wasn't looking too promising but I thought I could do with a blow on the moor before heading down to the football.

The rain gave way to a weak winter sunshine. Not quite enough for rainbows, but good for bringing out the colour of the sedges and grasses against a dark sky (extra).

At Hope Farm the sheep were being their curious selves, particularly this trio. I think the one on the left is a tup but it seems an odd time of year for one to be in with the the ewes.

Then it was off to Valley Parade for the first post-McCall match. The decision to sack him has not been very popular, but that's what happens when a team with high expectations goes on a long losing run. The first five minutes were dominated by McCall chants, but thereafter everyone settled into supporting the team.

Today's visitors were bottom of the table Bury, but we've long stopped making assumptions about the quality of opponents given City's poor home record against supposedly lower teams this season. A tense first half ended goalless, but City finally managed to take the lead early in the second half through Dieng following some good wing play from Gilliead. Bury were level within minutes though with City failing to clear a corner.

The match looked to be heading for a draw when City scored a second in the 89th minute, an eventful breakaway goal from McCartan. The cheers were followed by groans when it was announced there would be five minutes added time, and true to form Bury equalised again in the fifth of those added minutes.

Still, a point is more than Bradford have achieved since New Year's Day and there were some signs of more belief and desire among the players. We await the appointment of a new manager with interest.
