The empty stage

We enjoyed a wonderful evening of music at the Muni in Pontypridd, with Georgia Ruth, The Gentle Good - playing with the Mavron Quartet - and Cowbois Rhos Botwnnog.

I'm endlessly impressed with the sheer quantity and range of Welsh musical talent and to be able to experience live music is an absolute joy.

I can't do justice to the people who played last night, so here are a few notes and links to videos.

George Ruth plays folk/blues harp and has a beautiful voice. This is Bones.

The Gentle Good sing songs about nature, death and loss. The Mavron Quartet added an extra dimension to the performance. This is Gareth Bonello singing Aubade.

The Cowbois seemed particularly unleashed last night - even moreso than at Acapela in June 2012. There was the sense that this wasn't just a performance, but that the music was an expression of the band and the moment. Phenomenal. This is Celwydd Gola Ydi Cariad.

A fantastic evening, and just 10 minutes from home. If you have the chance to see any of these folk live, do go.
