POSH

Posting in 2018.

I need to get this item posted in my journal as a "bookmark". A long story as to how, what, why & when this all came about and one day at the appropriate time will fill in the details. I have written a bit on the entry for 28th August.

Port Out, Starboard Home (P.O.S.H.) for us on this wonderful old "boat". A legend for many seeking new lives in the Antipodes in the 1960s and even to most UK serviceman who served in the Falklands War of 1982.

We had cabin A66 on the left-hand (port) side and on the top deck. An inside, two bedded cabin but still "Premier class". Children Kate & J had a four bedded cabin along with their friend Anna and her wonderful childminder Irene who looked after them all so well. She is still in 2018 involved with Anna and her children.

So on this day, the party of 5 adults and 3 children set off from our home in West Sussex to Southampton in two cars, the children and Irene chauffeur driven in one car and the other adults in another. We had the luxury of not having to bother what to do with the cars while away for the two weeks and so it was only minutes from arriving at the quayside to being shown to our cabin.

Along with this letter, a book entitled "Dear Mother", a collection of letters written by a P&O employee from around 1858 when he was serving on the ships doing the UK-Far East trips. I will post more on this later.
