A place in time

I love this little paperback.  It is only 112 small pages, slightly less than 4" by 6" and I managed to pick it up for just 50p in a charity shop somewhere.

It seems that Alan Bennett's writing has rather a Marmite touch - some people (myself included) love his writing and some do not.  Anyway, I found this to be a bizarre, joyous story, which I have read about three times.  Even though you know what happens, the delicious descriptions enthrall me every time.

Thought for the day:

"Life is like a box of sardines and we are all looking for the key."  (Alan Bennett)
