Tonight was the first date of a short European tour by Simple Minds to promote the recent release of their latest album. I’ve seen them in concert numerous times now, but it’s probably over 30 years since I last saw them playing at the legendary Barrowland Ballroom. And as always, they didn’t disappoint.
It’s also 40 years since their first live gig in January 1978, and they’re fast approaching their 3000th. Apparently, if they go over that by around a further 200 gigs, they’ll beat the current Scottish record for the number of live shows – currently held by Sydney Devine! :/ [If you don’t know him, Google him at your own (and your eardrums’) peril!]
This is the third time I’ve blipped Simple Minds, each from a different venue:
Simple Minds 2015
Simple Minds 2017
[As well as referring to the venue, the Title of today’s blip references 'Barrowland Star' – one of the standout tracks on the new album.]
