Friendship Day

This day, traditionally romantic in the rest of the world, is Friendship Day in Finland. The notion of the 14th of February as a special day arrived quite late to Finland, compared to the rest of the world: it was listed as a special day for the first time in 1987.

A fountain in front of of a Tampere City Hall was donated to city of Tampere by Wilhelm von Nottbeck in 1882. It was built for ladies of the city for household purposes - the fountain was a place to get fresh water for free. There are four dragons on top of the fountain, which is covered with a glass shield in the winter.
