The Phoenix Rises

The day the Glen twinned with Mars

The Glen was in the grips of the Martians, (well people dressed in blue and playing the bagpipes and walking on stilts.)

We attended the MacMillan coffee morning then daundered along to the monument to collect texts and phone signal and I yet again explaind to the group about seeing and otter twice along the stretch of beach known as Quarry.
Yep, you've guessed who showed up again, our otter and he swam and fished and got out of the water not 10 feet away, but I couldn't get a goodd shot, but took some video, just because I could.

Bigest bro L had stayed behind to work, so he yet again missed out.

Sigh!

The afternoon activities were supposed to include; A planetarium, ( it was 3 times over-subscribed).
Watching and playing with the Curiosity rover model in the primary scool hall, (it was so busy we could get in the door.)
So we headed for the Marquee where the lecture about the Mars Curiousity Rover, with John C Brown, (Scottish Astronomer Royal), Doug McCuistion, (director of the Nasa Mars exploration programme), via live video link and the retired Astronaut Dr. Bonnie Dunbar.

We sat rivetted for 2 hours and enjoyed our seats, which many people didn't manage to get and had to stand for the whole time. The Q+A session after each speaker was equally as much fun, with the loacl kids getting a good few questions asked and even the odd adult pitching in.

Glenelg was in the news most of the day and it is even rumoured to feature on the One show on Monday, but don't hold your breath to see me. I hope I dodged the bullet.

The ceilidh was a tad too much after the day's events, so we left it for the young 'uns.

We relaxed over a Ready steady cook style meal and a drop of Salmon fishing in the Yemen on DVD. My second sock (knitting) is coming on.
