Challenges

which I rarely do but I love my Community so am entering today though the photos are back blipped.

Some years ago the local Historian, Charlie Steel had a Village website where a few of us used to chat about the Good old days.
When he moved on to Facebook the numbers soared and he now has about 3000 members though most just look in.

I suggested holding Coffee Mornings and he agreed to give them a try.
They are such a laugh though only about 25 members show.
They are held in the Monkseaton Arms.

I was born in the Village in 1942 and have seen a lot of changes.
The Village dates back to the 12th Century and was originally named Seton.
The prefix Monk was often found in connection with places belonging to Religious houses.
In this case it became Seaton of the Monks or Monkseaton.

The Village is situated less than half a mile from Whitley Bay town.
Originally named WHITLEY the BAY was added when a local resident died in Edinburgh.
His body was transported to WHITBY by mistake.

This information is from one of Charlie's books ;)

Thankyou Alsacienne for hosting.
