Two Very Different Portraits

M’s daughter K has been staying with us for a few days, and today we took her to Blickling Hall.  We enjoyed some NT sandwiches in their restaurant before our tour of the house where I took this photo of K.  It has been a real delight to have K to visit, she is excellent company.

The extra is a mannequin in the ‘sewing room’ at Blickling where a group of local sewers meet on a regular basis. The mannequin is dressed as Lady Dorothy Bell (1572 to 1641) who married Henry Hobart in 1590. Henry was the builder of Blickling Hall.  He died in 1625 and there is a painting of Lady Hobart owned by the NT showing her wearing mourning clothes.  I assume this mannequin is dressed to represent this.
