The Ellacombe Chiming Mechanism at the Town Church

We had this restored so that it is useable but in reality it is rare that it is used. 
This is mainly because we can provide a band for most Sunday services and if we can't then there probably isn't anyone to chime anyway. One person can chime all 8 bells to relatively simple hymn or other tunes but it is pretty hard work. Far more so than actually ringing full circle.
We rang at 9.30 this morning and this was supposed to be for the benefit of a visiting ringer. But we had fog yesterday so she is still on the mainland. But a spare rope was an opportunity for an inexperienced ringer to step in and gain some useful experience. And it worked well and we rang a reasonable quarter peal. 
Ringing is organised for her even earlier tomorrow at 2 other churches; always assuming she gets here of course! If not we get a lie in...
