Mackerel sky

Another day of sunshine, so back out into the garden and more barrowing of soil from the proposed shed area and onto the raised beds.  Had to get Mike to help removing the old boards, but it was still a good workout! The whole garden looks transformed already, and that's before the new fence and shed.

A mackerel sky this afternoon - so called because the ripples of clouds look like the fish's markings.

It marks a change in the weather, which will be a shame, as I could get a lot done in the garden with a week of sunshine!   Found the bit below on line.
"In the days of sailing ships they have been rightly viewed as likely forerunners of stormy weather: Mare's tails and mackerel scales make lofty ships take in their sails."
I think we have more than our fair share of stormy weather!
