Mainspring repair

In was late back in the afternoon not because of Citizens Advice overrunning this time but because there was quite a bit to do and work to collect in the shop as I passed through. This was a fairly straightforward repair to a clock mainspring.  The spring was broken at its end. All that was required was to cut off the broken end, heat the spring end to red hot and let it cool slowly to soften the metal, punch a small hole and then gradually file it out to a V slot, hook the spring end over the tab and wind the spring back into the barrel. The clock parts are in the cleaner and I will reassemble the mechanism tomorrow.
