Thanks mindful_life for hosting this month.

I just Googled "losing network connection" and found a suggested fix involving updating the network adapter and disabling "allow computer to turn off this device to save power".
I've done that and so far it's working much better and not continually dropping off the LAN and Internet.
Fingers crossed but won't hold my breath.
