Edda Passat - Wind Farmer

Went for a walk lunchtime, this time down towards Poniente beach. When I arrived I saw this boat heading out to sea. It caught my attention because of its unusually shaped prow.

Turns out it's very recently built, not in Gijon's shipyard, but in Astilleros Gondán, a shipyard in Castropol in the far west of Asturias. It's due to be handed over to its Norwegian operators Ørsted Rederi next week. It has been undergoing final fitting out and sea trials here in Gijón before heading off for Grimsby where it will be based, together with it's sister ship the Edda Mistral. The latter is due to be handed over in August.

Both new ships are Rolls Royce designed Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) and are purpose-built for servicing Ørsted's wind farms off the coast of UK.The Edda Mistral will service the Hornsea 1 wind farm while the Edda Passat will service Race Bank wind farm.

Ties in quite nicely with my blip from a few of days ago.
