An alien

The white butterbur Petasites albus are erupting from the ground, just in time for the blast of very cold air sweeping across Europe. 

The species is native to the mountains of Central Europe and the Caucasus. Introduced into Britain in the 17th century it is most commonly found in the NE of Scotland.
