Archive Blip

It my be an archive blip, but the subject is current :-))

When Scotland last had the pleasure of winning the Calcutta Cup in 2008, I held the enviable position of official bench warmer and thigh masseuse of the National Rugby Union team and as such, managed to get my hands on the trophy.

Hahahaha....if only!  Well the last part is true :-))

After Scotland's victory in 2008, Scottish Rugby announced the Calcutta Cup was to go on a National Tour.

At the time, I worked as a Family Support Worker for a children's charity and we were chosen as one of the many lucky organisations to have the Cup visit us and give us the chance see and to hold it up close.

To be honest we were hoping the local rugby side would be coming along with it but alas it was not to be.  A security man and and rugby official arrived with it and once the children had the opportunity to see and hold it, it was the turn of the staff to slip our hands into the white cotton gloves (there were a number of pairs) and pose for shots to be used on the charity's website and magazine.

I can't believe we've had to wait 10 years to win it back again!  But as Martin says, good things come to those who wait :-))

I'm not sure this is the exact date this photo was taken but it's within the dates the Cup was touring central Scotland so that's close enough for me
:-))
