Backhouse Park, Sunderland

The park was acquired in December 1922 from Thomas William Backhouse a Quaker. This park is a natural arboretum with a large variety of trees and some of the city's largest mature trees. Situated within the park is one of Sunderland university's art buildings (they are in the process of moving out to a newer site I believe) and the Reg Vardy Art Gallery.
