Between fen and mountains

Snow on kale

The cold weather meant it was quiet at Citizens Advice and I got back to the shop early where I did a couple of small jobs and collected a 'barn fresh' clock for restoration, cobwebs and all.  I walked around the lanes and met Tony the smallholder who was cutting his cabbages before the frost destroys them.  He explained that if they freeze in the middle, the outer leaves die off in the thaw and the cabbage rots. The forecast is not good.  I liked the look of the curly kale with the snow on it but it was the superior black kale I took home with me.
