Still going Strong

It was as if the time stood still this Sunday, but the Crazy Rockers were rocking just like 58 years ago when they played on this same stage in 1960.

The only difference is that the dance bar ‘De Zwarte Ruiter’ on the Grote Markt in The Hague was called ‘La Gaite’ then.

The original teenage band members Woody Brunings (vocals, guitar) and Eddy Chatelin (vocals, guitar) are now supplemented with 'youngsters' Boy Brostowski (drums, since 1965), Chris Latul (guitarist, ex- Massada) and Louis Drabe (bass) but despite their senior citizen age - Woody, the curly guitar player jumping towards the ceiling in my photo has just turned 80 years old!!! - they still rock.

Actually they are probably the oldest existing rock-'n-roll band in Europe!

Together with The Blue Diamonds, the Tielman Brothers, The Crazy Rockers are the godfathers of indo rock - one of the pillars from which The Hague built a name as THE Music Town of Holland.

When they played in the Kaiserkeller in Hamburg the upcoming Beatles - then still called ‘The Beat Brothers’ with Tony Sheridan as singer - played in the Top Ten Club and visited The Crazy Rockers frequently after their gigs. They even frequently joined the Crazy Rockers on stage.

In the extras you’ll find a picture of the band in the ’60’s and if you you want to swing you can hear them by clicking here.

Come on, don’t be shy…. Just Rock & Roll
