Avocet

Its been a day of very changeable weather.  We took the opportunity late afternoon to go for a walk along the estuary in between periods of rain.  The usual areas were flooded and the water levels very high considering the tide was out.  There was lots of bird activity and we saw lapwings, shelduck, a golden plover, redshanks, a heron, various gulls and quite unusually an avocet.  They tend to be seen along the Exe estuary mainly.  Its not a very good shot as I only had a compact camera but it tells the story.

Lots of people were enjoying themselves on the beach and taking advantage of the short sunny break in the mainly rainy dull weather today.
