Bloomer

I've had this orchid 9 years and it's a faithful bloomer. I'm not so lucky with my others...

We're in the only section of town with power, the nor'easter really ravaged the South Shore of Massachusetts. A childhood / lifelong friend may be staying with us tonight, she has no power and a flooded basement. Luckily she was able to have a friend bring over a generator  today He helped her begin pumping this afternoon. The water was up to her boiler, so who knows what shape that will be in. The hope for power restoration is midnight Tuesday at best. We know a lot of friends and relatives without power, but luckily no trees on their house and cars. One of our friends had a close call coming home from teaching on Friday afternoon. A tree fell across the road just one car ahead of her. She and that driver escaped a tragedy, She sent us a scary photograph, she was very, very lucky.

We feel very lucky and a bit distracted and unfocused, a strange weekend. To be unscathed when others are in such situations is unnerving and odd. There are more storms on the way, snow perhaps on Wednesday.

This day came in with clouds and sun. So many trees and branches down everywhere, what a storm.

All hands feeling grateful for a warm, intact house and firmly rooted trees.

Extra, Nora standing with her new gizmo, she's not walking, but could be an early walker...
