Breaking through

Daughter took me to see Black Panther. I don't normally go to superhero or action films and am a bit slow to work out what's going on when the CGI sparks start to fly but she wanted to know what I'd make of it in the context of the startling new profile of oppression in Hollywood.

Afterwards I took her out for a meal and we worked our way through the fault lines:
race
gender
colonialism
slavery
apartheid
class
wealth
social and economic responsibility
Africa/African America

OK, still a few tangles left to sort but it was great to see such a screenful of black actors proving (again) that they can act, and on the evening that Jordan Peele won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar and Frances McDormand stood by her women.
