Treadworn

Today's music session was hosted for the first time by one of the guys who has rooms in Trinity College. Trinity is steeped in history, of course, since it dates from the late sixteenth century, and the building we were in is itself among the oldest on campus. I love wandering around Trinity at the best of times, and I made a point today of leaving myself some time to walk about and do some blipping. These foot-worn steps are part of the 1937 Reading Room building, across the main square from the Dining Hall.

Last night had seen an extra-curricular get-together of the music group, meeting to watch a DVD of Alban Berg's opera Wozzeck. It isn't exactly cheery stuff, and the music isn't exactly tuneful, but it's enormously effective dramatically, and works wonderfully well in operatic terms, especially in the version we watched, which was filmed on location in the 1970's. Our host did us proud afterwards with food and drink, and economic woes of the worlds were discussed at great length.

I'd left my car overnight near last night's opera venue, so got the bus in to town for the music session and a DART from town back to pick up the car. Carl was having a couple of friends of ours in tonight for a visit to Carl's Kino. We met them in Glasthule, went across to Tribes restaurant for an Early Bird, and then went back to Carl's place for a screening of Pixar Studios wonderful Ratatouille. It was just as enjoyable this time as when it was when it first came out: definitely one of the all-time great animation films.
