International Women's Day
Probably cheating a bit using old photographs but these 3 women were an inspiration. They are my Grandfather's 3 sisters, Mary Anne, Catherine and Rose, daughters of the man who fled Ireland during the Famine and managed to make a decent life for his family. All 3 girls trained as teachers at Dowanhill College, Glasgow in the early 1900 and they all studied French. Mary Anne went on to become Head Teacher of a school in Redcar, Catherine joined a religious teaching order and Rose was the only one who married and left the profession. She sadly died in childbirth just a year after she was married. I think these 3 ladies must have inspired my desire to be a teacher and to study French.
