The House of Terror

This morning Mrs CBL and I visited the The House of Terror museum which tells the story of two shameful and tragic periods in Hungary’s 20th century history.

Hungary has a very chequered political history and as a consequence has been invaded and occupied twice, firstly by the Nazi forces led by Adolf Hitler and then at the end of the Second World War by Soviet Russian forces.

The Double Occupation was a time when tyrannical regimes seized power which in turn led to political repression and economic decline. It was a time of horror, fear and unspeakable acts of terror.

The museum, which was the headquarters of these political organisations, commemorates the victims and is a reminder of the dreadful acts of terrorist dictatorships.  It also highlights that to  fight in the name of freedom against murderous regimes is never futile. The powers of freedom and independence eventually emerged victorious.
